Winter Fungicide Treatment

On Friday we were able to deliver our final spray of the year on greens and fairway.  This treatment is for the prevention of pink and grey snow mould on our turf over the winter and early spring.  This will not prevent winter dessication or hydration injury that damaged our greens 2 of the past 3 springs.  Tees will be done this week.

This is the hardening off period for the turf and what we do at this time of year will go a long way to better turf next spring.  Topdressing, aeration and fertilization can help protect the crowns of the plants, help plants store carbs and reduce the amount of water during melt-off next spring.  Mowing for the year was finished more than a week ago.  Mowing too late in the years can open up the turf plant to the elements and remove vital carbohydrates stored in the leaf which the plant needs to survive the winter.
