Even though summer is still a day or two away, it's weather is here. Our sprayer is going out weekly now on greens alone. I would lay odds that every superintendent in Ontario had their sprayer out on the greens yesterday or today, painting up the turf with some contact fungicide and some sunblock. In the extreme southwest of the province this situation is very common. We treated greens this morning with a cocktail of fungicide, plant growth regulator, and some indicator dye that doubles as a sort of UV inhibitor that helps reduce stress on the turf, especially in the hot afternoons. For a day or so the greens will have a blueish tinge until rain or irrigation washes it off. We have only single cut greens for the past 4 days and so for the next couple of days we will employ some double cutting and/or rolling now that the greens have their protection.
